These sites literally die (as in members stop participating) when there isn't the ability to make trades. I love making trades as much as the next guy, but being 250K from the salary cap doesn't allow me to do much (and it doesn't allow anyone else to do anything either). We've had a really low cap ceiling since this league began. Let's get a good jump here so we can continue having some fun. Boost it to 88M+ and let's get this place active again!

We could raise the cap to 100M and there’s definitely those of you that would STILL have issues within a couple days. Everyone was aware it was flat cap for 3 seasons, followed by an increase. Manage the cap better. Trades slow down a bit anyway once guys get the players the want. Not everyone looks to make a complete roster overhaul every couple months

Manage the cap better. Trades slow down a bit anyway once guys get the players the want. Not everyone looks to make a complete roster overhaul every couple months The problem is pr changed hands and the new pr isn’t as consistent as crank was. Threw off the value on players and screwed a bunch of us. Also kind of hard to manage your cap better when pr makes you pay more money for guys then the following year downgrades them. Take for example Hertl off my team guy goes out and lights it up so I offer a contract then I get countered at 7.5 and I’m like fine he was pretty good for my team. Next year pr changes hand then guy still lights it up with 65 points gets downgraded produces better than a guy like Krieder who’s older and produced less and didn’t get a downgrade. And now the new pr is signing guys for example cheap like Miller in free agency cuz barely anyone made offers on them cuz everyone’s cap is so tight when those guys should have been signing to non gm teams for their current value not discounted value

Also I was fine with the cap staying flat and was well aware of it. It’s what happens in the real nhl guys get bigger cap hits on better teams and get older and it’s a cycle. It’s just now after this off-season seeing some of the deals it makes you go wtf are they doing lol

I understand what you’re saying VAN. Hopefully next offseason will be a little more consistent. I will say on Hertl, 65 pts and not much else is why the downgrade. Kreider had a lot of other stats that were really good (hits, take always). Cranker was going to be harsher on downgrades this offseason anyway.
It’s a new PR. So some deals will probably be a little different. I don’t think raising the cap really helps with these issues that much now. Most deals have been a little cheaper than normal, but like in real life, when there isn’t money to go around, players sign for less

I think the issue is that these downgrades for players still in their prime (ie. Pionk) happens, and that's fine. But now I can't even move a prospect with him to get rid of his contract because everyone is at the cap hahah

I would vote to lower the cap next year if that was an option and no compliance buyouts anytime soon. someone mentioned those before, not sure when it's supposed to be happen or if they are happening at all

Know matter what it has to be raised. The new pr fucked up by not paying attention to what Crank was doing. Or else the league is fucked and needs to be rebooted. Also #bringbackcrankaspr

Also #bringbackcrankaspr That’s a bit harsh and dramatic. Cranker was a great PR, no doubt about it. Guy has real life responsibilities though, and just doesn’t have the time atm. LAK has done a fine job coming in and learning on the fly. So let’s not shit on him. And let’s be real for a moment, it’s not like people didn’t bitch about Cranker. Because they did. Some people always have “better” ideas on how to do things, but we’re all doing our best. We will strive to be more consistent. I’m sorry if you feel you were slighted on a contract signing There will be another slight increase in Cap next season, and compliance buyout 2024-25

Cant be signing young 87s to 6.5 million dollar deals when the following year the going rate was 7.5 for an older one. Or 85 goalies to 3.5 when I had to sign mine to 5 .25mill a year. Wrecks the league lol. And kings or whoever can also learn from this but this is why the cap has to be raised

I think some of the fun is building a roster that fits under a cap. Where is the challenge if you can just throw money at players and have all 90+ guys.

You’ve missed the point 85s are getting 2.5 or less right now last year they were getting 5.25. Or an 88 young guy got 6.5 when I had to pay 7.5 for the same overall the year before

To me, it's more of an issue with too many upgrades. In the actual NHL, you usually have 1-4 stinker of teams that can eat salary. The further we progress, the better our bottoms get. Teams are constantly able to just upgrade any AHL to become a 4th liner and have no real need to even go for UFAs, yet alone take on a bad deal.
It happened at Hockleague/Coast a lot the further we progressed, 85s would almost go for 700k to be a depth piece on good teams. I'm not sure how to perfectly counter that aside from removing manual upgrades and making everything performance-based or potentially downgrading middle-six guys earlier (maybe this is where potential gets added in, so you know some guys are likely to downgrade more at 30-33 compared to a Datsyuk etc) and maybe adding career-ending injuries. As much as it sucks, you usually have an Andrew Shaw situation annually and that's not something sim leagues have ever replicated. My 3rd line is currently 83-84-83, which probably should be considered a 'strong' 3rd line in an ideal overall situation, but it seems everyone has an 83 at worst as their 9th F, unless purposely trying to develop younger guys.
Maybe we should completely alter the MPU/APU and try and make 78-80s 4th liners again, I'm not sure.

Also, I think LA has been fine as a PR, especially for a first-timer. This situation is not on him at all, it's just how these cap leagues have historically progressed. Noone has had a true answer as of yet. Everyone wants to see their team's overalls go up, but in reality, that's just not how it's supposed to work.

I guess it just also comes to no draft prospects being "busts" so everyone progresses into a top line player (or is played on the top line to make them get a better upgrade)... making them more expensive

Cranker hit the nail on the head. Every league seems to go through this where those mid 80's guys end up being cheap depth pieces. You wait out the FA period long enough and you snag them for cheap at the end, or at the beginning, if noone else bids on them.
I think the answer would be aggressive downgrades on players but then many people will complain because noone wants their guys to go down. Maybe reducing the manual upgrades will also help with that.
Or maybe there's a way for teams to choose - you either manually upgrade or performance based. Performance based = higher overalls and chance of upgrading but more risky while the manual upgrades are guaranteed but you get less of them.
Not sure.

This is like the first league ever where if you waited it out you got guys cheap lol. And there’s non gm teams with tons of cap that’s where the admins should have stepped in and signed these guys to the contracts they should have been getting. Cap has to go up it always does. Changing prs screwed everything it’s super inconsistent like there’s nothing set in stone here contract wise or upgrade wise. Take a look at Drysdale and flames goalie for example those deals are a joke for contracts. Then take a look at performance upgrades at I think Arizona’s goalies stats and my goalies stats why would Arizona’s goalie get a plus 2 and my goalie nothing lol. I get it’s hard running a league and doing everything but a little consistency goes a long way. Like how are the upgrades done here anyway? Like Hertl -2 Zibanajead +1.

Someone should have stepped in and helped him though. We have a first timer at Ironman too. Told him to look at non gms and also watch out for guys trying to sign young-mid players to long term deals. Those are the deals guys try to sign then hit those guys with upgrades the following season

Fair enough. But you still missed my point on non gm controlled teams or inactive teams like Boston. Why is pr signing these guys for super cheap when non gm teams and inactive teams have a ton of space. Then making guys like myself overpay on my resigns. There’s no consistency at all. Same as upgrades. And those guys are all bums you listed signed for like 1 year. Yes that happens all the time. Plus only one of those guys are a mid 80

I imagine if that guy was still around and handling THAT, PR would really know what teams were actually a non GM team. It gets really hard when there’s basically two of us doing all that stuff. I realize some of that gets a little neglected, but don’t blame PR for that. Blame the other mods and admins that aren’t really doing much on that front (no offense guys) And ya know, 3 DIFFERENT leagues right now. Maybe just enjoy each for it’s own thing? It’s not like you’d win if you got Demko cheaper anyway. VAN’s always good for a first rd exit

I’m not an admin nor do I want to be just wanted the league to have more gms and everyone who joins always asks me how do I do it and who’s available. I’d bet if you ask there would be a few guys ready to step up and help I know that’s what I did at Ironman now I don’t do anything there lol. But yes 1st round every time lol hopefully I change it up this year
