- The team is still recovering from the loss of Corey Perry, but still have a solid team with a load of cap space available for the taking. One question from them could be how far they can go with such a small depth team.
- Boston is always a menacing team on paper, but this year around, one question is their depth at the right wing. Signing Viktor Stalberg was crutial for them. We should expect a few more trades from Boston to improve their depth at that wing.
- Buffalo could be the sleeper team of the season. He, in many peoples minds, quietly made a scary line, consisting of a top line involving Vanek, Hodgson and Pominville. Ryan Miller should be able to carry the team deep into the playoffs this season.
- After a full rebuild, Calgary took advantage on what people say is Nashville's 'mistake' and selected Nathan MacKinnon. An already NHL-ready player, MacKinnon should be playing top line minutes with Ryan Getzlaf and either Simon Gagne or Joffrey Lupul. One question, however is their goaltending. How far can James Reimer go with an offensive heavy team.
- Much like Boston, the Hurricanes have alot of weapons, but they lack depth at the right wing. Have no fear, however, as Carolina dipped into the Free Agency pool, and most notably signed Stephen Weiss. Expect Carolina to start out hot right out of the gate.
- Chicago was well silent in their offseason, re-signing some key players, only losing Viktor Stalberg to Boston. Could this be a down year for the Hawks?
- Colorado won the Corey Perry sweepstakes during the offseason, helping an already solid right wing depth. With almost the same team returning, could the Avs return to the playoffs?
- Columbus has created a goaltender controversy, as they signed Mike Smith during Free Agency. Sources say that one of them could be traded before the season starts. Is this true? Or, will Smith and Steve Mason trade shifts under the pipes? Who knows?
- The defending Stanley Cup Champions have bolstered their roster with the signing of Nathan Horton and Ladislav Smid. Kari Lethonen will once again be trusted to carry this team under the pipes. There could be a possible repeat in Texas. My sources say no, however.
- Once again, another goalie controversey, as they returned Jimmy Howard with a lucrative 9M per year deal. With a No Trade Clause in Howard's contract, could Thomas Vokoun be moved somewhere else? My sources are saying so.
- Losing Alex Edler hurt their defense badly, which could make or break the Oilers this season. GM Matt Kruze, however, is still looking for ways to improve his relatively weak defense. Expect names such as Smyth, Raymond, and Brule being moved for some depth.
- The young Panthers have a long road ahead for them this season. Even though they bring back a talented top line of Versteeg, Huberdeau and Mueller, along with the drafting of Max Domi and signing of Michal Handzus, one question is, again, at the pipes, where Jacob Markstrom is expected to start the majority of games.
- The former Cup Champions are recovering from a 'dissapointing' playoff run, and bring back virtually a similar roster to last year. Could chemistry be the difference this season? We could be seeing the Kings being the 'Kings' once again come the end of this coming season.
- Only one signing during free agency for the Wild this time, and it's not a household name this time. Drew Miller helps their wing depth, but expect draft pick Anthony Mantha to be a prescence for this squad. Calder trophy candidate right here.
- Montreal was the winner of the Alex Edler lottery, and improves a defense that now looks the scariest at this moment. Finnish rookie Alex Barkov should add a pleasant amount of goals for the bleu, blanc et rouge. Another early cup candidate, can they live up to the hype this season?
- Nashville made a surprise during draft day by selecting American Defenseman Seth Jones with the first overall pick. There was some uncertainty with why he made that pick. Some believe it is to fully fill the void Ryan Suter left two seasons ago. Jones will be playing top line minutes with Shea Weber. Nashville also signed Alex Semin in the offseason. One question, is yes, it's goaltending. With Sasu Hovi and Chet Pickard to split time, will the Predators squeak on by in the playoffs? Not with those names for goalies, no, my sources say.
- Much similar to Chicago, New Jersey decided to stay quiet in the offseason, keeping it's core. The only big move made was the waiver claim of Scott Gomez. Will they also have a down year?
- The Islanders didn't get many big names, but they did ink Clarke MacArthur to a deal, which only leaves Long Island two questions. One, what is the future of Tyler Ennis with the signing of MacArthur, and how long until a new GM transfers this team to Brooklyn for good?.
- The Eastern Conference champions are recovering from a six game losing series to Dallas, but that still doesn't mean that this team isn't scary anymore. The Rangers have a similar roster as last season, with former Saskatoon Blade Jyri Niemi expected to be a fill-in soon. Can the Rangers return to the Cup Finals with this team? If Lundqvist plays like he did this past season, we could be seeing a repeat in Eastern Conference Champions.
- Craig Anderson has slowly risen as Ottawa's guaranteed starter, and an elite starter for many NHL teams. With the same team returning, will Ottawa have the same luck as last year, and make the playoffs once more? Only time will tell.
- One question coming from Philadelphia is their wing depth. How far can Briere and Hartnell carry this wing depth until they have no more left in the tank? Having someone like Scott Parse after they are done is not ideal for the Flyers.
- Some people's dirt is one's treasure. After squeezing by in the playoffs by 6 points by making a blockbuster trade with Nashville, sending Pekka Rinne to the desert, and a trip to the Western Conference finals in what people say was a "Cinderella Story", Phoenix looks like they could be division champions in no time. Who says that Phoenix is moving anywhere with a roster like this?
- Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were 1 and 2 in points, leading them to a President's Trophy. However, questions swirl about their wings after losing Pascal Dupuis to Nashville. There's a possibility that we could see Crosby and Malkin sharing the ice together again.
- Freddie who? Yes, the brother of Dougie Hamilton is quickly rising up the ranks as one of the hottest young guns in the league. Expect Hamilton to play some top 6 time with Logan Couture. San Jose finished 4th in the West and got eliminated by the Cinderella Coyotes. A different story this year?
- With new management in St. Louis, the trading has only just begun. After acquiring Matt Duchene and Milan Hejduk from Colorado, and rumours of T.J. Oshie moving for the right price, St. Louis will be a much different team this season. But, what will that translate into, wins or losses?
- Tampa fans were very dissapointed with the 9th place finish this past season, and want GM nucksforcups' head if he can't make the playoffs this season. Well, he definetly listened, as the top line of Zetterberg, Stamkos, and St. Louis look scarier than ever. Anders Lindback looks like he can carry the team long enough for a good playoff spot.
- The Leafs made the playoffs for the first time since the 2004 season, but as expected they didn't go too far. During the offseason, they made a grand total of 0 signings, questioning if the Leafs are once again rebuilding soon. As a Leaf fan, you have to be wondering if those veterans of Kipprusoff, Doan and Tanguay can produce big numbers this season.
- The Canucks had a very dissapointing playoff after being eliminated by the later Cup Champions Dallas Stars. The team has, as of right now, one right winger. Expect rookie Frederick Gauthier to play some games at the wing, along with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Will their lack of depth hurt them this season?
- The Capitals signed Jaromir Jagr during the offseason, relieving some of the stress from Nail Yakupov on that right wing. The Capitals are also recovering from a first round exit. With a team as deadly as this right now, having Plekanec, Luongo and possibly Ovechkin at the top of their careers right now, how long will it be until they in fact raise Lord Stanley's cup?
- With the signing of Tyler Bozak and Raffi Torres, you have to think about the wings for Winnipeg. The bottom 6 doesn't exactly yell out scary, having names such as Klingberg and Bickell there makes people laugh rather than shiver in fear. But, if you look at the dynamic first line of Team Hell No, AKA The Kanes and Bryan (Little), we could see another eighth place squeeze-in for the Jets once again.
